India Emerges as a Hub for Ethical and Inclusive AI at Landmark Global Summit

The India AI Impact Summit 2026, the first major global AI gathering hosted in the Global South, has drawn unprecedented participation, including over 20 Heads of State, 60 Ministers and Vice Ministers, and more than 500 global AI leaders. Bringing together policymakers, technology companies, innovators, academia, and industry stakeholders, the Summit aims to transform global AI dialogue into actionable development outcomes aligned with the IndiaAI Mission and the Digital India initiative.

At Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the India AI Impact Summit 2026, (16-21 February) marking a landmark moment in India’s digital journey. Addressing heads of state, global tech CEOs, and multilateral leaders, Modi emphasized India’s resolve to make artificial intelligence human-centric, inclusive, and trusted, guided by the theme “For the welfare of all, for the happiness of all.” The Prime Minister stressed AI’s potential to drive growth, improve governance, and bridge the global digital divide. He also pointed out that the regulations must share rules and international cooperation on safety, ethics, and democratized access to AI resources.

The India–AI Impact Summit 2026 aims to advance an impact-oriented and people-centric approach to Artificial Intelligence, with emphasis on delivering measurable social and economic outcomes. The Summit is anchored on three foundational pillars, known as ‘Sutras’—a Sanskrit term meaning guiding principles or essential threads that weave together wisdom and action. These Sutras define how AI can be harnessed through multilateral cooperation for collective benefit.

The Summit has cast India as a platform for inclusive and ethical AI in a collective setting with a clear push towards values based on “People, Planet and Progress.” The India AI Impact Summit 2026 delivered focused, outcome-oriented results aligned with national priorities. Leading Transformative Horticulture and Urban Green Development in Andhra Pradesh

Vepuri Shadrak Dharmaja serves as Joint Director in charge of Urban Greenery and Forest Wing at Amaravati Development Corporation Limited, Amaravati. With a career in the Department of Horticulture, Government of Andhra Pradesh since 1990, he has dedicated more than three decades to advancing horticulture and improving the livelihoods of farmers across the state.

Driven by his passion for horticulture and farmer welfare, he made the significant decision to leave a Central Government position to join the State Government, enabling him to directly implement innovative programs that promote crop diversification and higher farm incomes. Throughout his career, he has consistently encouraged farmers to transition from low income traditional crops to high value horticulture crops through modern and sustainable agricultural practices.

One of his most notable achievements was introducing tissue culture banana cultivation in tribal areas of Kadapa district. This intervention resulted in a threefold increase in tribal farmers’ incomes, dramatically transforming their socio economic conditions.

His first posting was in Palamaner in Chittoor district, a region with unique climatic advantages. Recognizing its potential, he promoted dry land horticulture crops such as mango. Today, the area has emerged as a prominent mango hub supplying produce to major food processing industries. During 2009 and 2010, banana exports from Andhra Pradesh to Middle East countries commenced for the first time, marking a significant milestone.

As Project Director, he led Chittoor district to achieve first rank in drip irrigation implementation in terms of area coverage. Among the top ten mango producing districts in the country, six were from Chittoor district. He also promoted orchid cultivation under greenhouse conditions in Krishna district through an integrated model. Under his guidance, 25 lakh grafted vegetable seedlings with drought and disease resistance were produced and distributed to farmers.

Beyond rural initiatives, he has promoted terrace gardening in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh and is currently spearheading green development projects in Amaravati. His work includes avenue plantations, central medians, water body beautification, biodiversity parks, and public recreation parks, contributing significantly to sustainable urban development and environmental enhancement.

Prior to assuming charge at Gliders India Limited in April 2025, he served as Chief General Manager Finance at NLC India Limited, a Navratna CPSE. At NLC India, he introduced ESG reporting in the financial year 2021 to 2022 ahead of regulatory mandates and played a pivotal role in the company’s strategic expansion into renewable energy through detailed financial feasibility and viability assessments. His introduction of Sales Bill Discounting significantly reduced receivables from approximately nine thousand crore rupees to four thousand five hundred crore rupees. He also contributed to strategic contract modifications that enabled liquidity infusion and timely completion of renewable energy projects, supporting MSME vendors.

Beyond financial restructuring, Shri Patnaik has championed employee centric initiatives. At Gliders India Limited, he introduced a competitive Corporate Salary Package without imposing additional cost on the company or employees. At NLC India, he was instrumental in migrating pension funds to the National Pension System without withdrawal charges, ensuring long term financial security for employees.

His leadership has been recognized through multiple accolades, including the NLC Excel Award in 2022 for Treasury and Working Capital Optimization. He received management appreciation for refinancing over twelve thousand five hundred crore rupees and reducing financing costs by three percent per annum, as well as recognition for reducing non fund based financing charges resulting in annual savings of over two crore rupees. He was also acknowledged for ensuring smooth migration to Corporate NPS with waiver of withdrawal charges.

Beyond corporate responsibilities, Shri Patnaik has demonstrated strong social commitment. He volunteered during the Kedarnath floods in 2013, served on the Standing Committee for Emergency Procurements during the COVID nineteen pandemic, and contributed as Honorary Treasurer of Jawahar Education Society in Neyveli, supporting an institution serving more than ten thousand students and five hundred staff members.

In 2011, first generation entrepreneur Ravinder Goel recognized the opportunity to create a homegrown brand that could deliver world class comfort while building strong domestic manufacturing capabilities. This vision led to the founding of Little Nap Recliners.

Starting with an initial investment of five lakh rupees and a small showroom, Goel entered a category that had minimal ecosystem support. Suppliers were largely unorganized, consumer awareness was limited, and margins were thin. Rather than competing on price, he focused on building long term capability. Investments in in house manufacturing, research and development, after sales service, and consumer education gradually expanded the comfort seating market and established Little Nap as a defining player in the segment.

Today, the company operates two advanced manufacturing facilities and a network of seventeen exclusive showrooms, employing more than four hundred and fifty professionals across design, production, distribution, and service functions. Its portfolio caters to premium residential buyers as well as institutional clients, including leading cinema chains such as PVR INOX, NY Cinema, and Connplex, major healthcare institutions like Medanta, along with corporate lounges and hospitality spaces.

Little Nap has further strengthened its market presence through strategic global partnerships with La Z Boy from the United States and Seating Spectrum from Malaysia, integrating international design and engineering expertise into the Indian market.

As he looks ahead, Ravinder Goel is steering the company toward deeper domestic expansion and stronger global integration. Dr Kulvinder Kochar Kaur is the Scientific Director of the Dr Kulvinder Kaur Centre for Human Reproduction, Jalandhar, Punjab, India, where she manages highly complex cases of infertility. She graduated from Lady Hardinge Medical College Delhi in 1980, topping Medicine across all three medical colleges of Delhi, for which she received the prestigious Dr Devi Chand Gold Medal from the late Prime Minister Smt Indira Gandhi. She had earlier topped all MBBS subjects including Anatomy, Pathology, and Biochemistry, laying a remarkably strong foundation in medical sciences.

During her MD training, she successfully managed the Endocrine Clinic at PGIMER Chandigarh. Subsequently, while working in Saudi Arabia, she reported the 40th documented case worldwide of hydrometrocolpos. Over the years, her work expanded into the field of neuroendocrinology, particularly focusing on obesity, insulin resistance IR, type 2 diabetes mellitus, and related complications such as Diabetic Kidney Disease DKD, Coronary Artery Disease CAD, and Heart Failure with Preserved Ejection Fraction HFpEF. She emphasizes non surgical management through Three Dimensional Healthcare 3DHC, incorporating Rajyoga Meditation RYM.

Her research contributions include work on GnRH control and the role of kisspeptins and prokineticins in human reproduction, AIDS, and cancer. During this phase, she achieved a landmark milestone by successfully treating the world’s first reported case of non gestational choriocarcinoma of the uterine body in a young girl through medical management, thereby preserving fertility. This achievement is documented in global medical literature.

Dr Kaur has authored over 500 publications, predominantly in international journals. Her expertise spans Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, with extensive experience in IVF, IUI, and ICSI. Due to health reasons, she is currently focused on research across multiple medical disciplines including Cardiology and Neurology, alongside her core specialties.

Her clinical and research interests also include amenorrhoea, PCOS, pregnancy with heart disease, pregnancy with heart failure, Hepatitis C Virus HCV, Human Immunodeficiency Virus HIV, and Human Papilloma Virus HPV in cervical and throat cancers. She is actively engaged in studying neurodegenerative diseases NDDs, with a special focus on the role of gut microbiota GM in conditions such as Parkinson’s disease PD, Alzheimer’s disease AD, and ALS, as well as cancer prevention and therapy.

India celebrates 77th Republic Day with Focus on 150 Years of Vande Mataram

India commemorated its 77th Republic Day on 26 January 2026, marking the anniversary of the Constitution of India coming into force in 1950 and the country’s formal emergence as a Sovereign Democratic Republic. While Independence in August 1947 ended colonial rule, the adoption of the Constitution completed India’s transition to self-governance grounded in constitutional authority, democratic institutions, and the collective will of its people.

Republic Day is observed annually through ceremonies that showcase the functioning of democratic institutions and the nation’s cultural diversity.

The central celebrations are held at Kartavya Path in New Delhi, where the Republic Day Parade presents a blend of military precision, cultural expression, and regional representation. Similar observances take place across the country through flag-hoisting ceremonies, official programmes, and cultural events in states, districts, educational institutions, and local communities.

The 2026 celebrations centred on “150 Years of Vande Mataram”, highlighting the enduring significance of the national song in India’s freedom movement and its continuing relevance to the nation’s aspirations. The theme reflected across the parade, tableaux, cultural performances, and public outreach initiatives.

At the national level, the Republic Day Parade 2026 featured 30 tableaux from States, Union Territories, and central ministries based on the themes Swatantrata ka Mantra – Vande Mataram and Samriddhi ka Mantra – Atmanirbhar Bharat. Around 2,500 artists participated in cultural performances, while nearly 10,000 Special Guests from diverse backgrounds including farmers, artisans, scientists, women entrepreneurs, students, sportspersons, and frontline workers attended the gathering. The parade included a Battle Array format by the Indian Army for the first time. The President of the European Council and the President of the European Commission also attended as Chief Guests.

Complementing the main event, the government launched nationwide competitions through MyGov and MY Bharat to encourage citizen participation. These initiatives aim to connect people, especially youth, with Republic Day celebrations, reinforcing the occasion as both a ceremonial and participatory national event.

President Smt Droupadi Murmu approved Gallantry awards to 70 Armed Forces personnel, including six posthumous, on the eve of 77th Republic Day. These include one Ashok Chakra; three Kirti Chakras; 13 Shaurya Chakras, including one posthumous; one Bar to Sena Medal (Gallantry); 44 Sena Medals (Gallantry), including five posthumous; six Nao Sena Medals (Gallantry) and two Vayu Sena Medals (Gallantry). Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla, Flying (Pilot), of the Indian Air Force has been awarded the Ashoka Chakra for displaying exceptional courage, leadership, and devotion to duty.
