“Don’t limit your challenges, challenge your limits”, says Lata, a life enthusiast and a learner for life, Lata is known to be a non-conformist for her choices in life. She is single by choice, spiritually inclined, and as a part of her learning and growth journey, loves to take risks and invites challenges. Hailing from a middle-class background, Ms. Lata took up the field of commerce and pursued chartered accountancy in parallel. Prior to completion of the qualification and exploring various areas, she decided to take up tax as an area of specialisation and her only aspiration when she started her career was to head a tax department at a corporate.
With excellence being one of her values, she worked towards being one of the best in the field and in her 30s became a tax head for Barclays group in India. In her tax career of 20 years, she has at a point of time been, the youngest tax head in financial services industry amongst the foreign banks and also the only one to do regional tax head role out of India. Ms. Lata has also worked as a member of APAC and India tax forums as well as bodies like Confederation of Indian Industry to contribute towards tax advocacy. In addition, she’s also been associated with multinational organisations like Morgan Stanley, Barclays, Citigroup and Bank of America and through her contributions in the area of tax planning, compliance and risk management for Indian branches of these foreign corporations played a role in nation building.
As a noteworthy recognition, Ms. Lata has also been recognised for her social contributions as a volunteer on variety of sustainable development causes like child education, women empowerment, social entrepreneurship and farmers’ welfare by working in organisations like Young Volunteers Organisation. Continuing her unconventional choices and a passion to work for purpose driven organisations she transitioned from her tax specialist role to become a CEO of a start up in fleet management industry. Ms. Lata’s current stint is at Everest Fleet, a fast-growing fleet management which is focussed on creating environmentally sustainable mobility solutions, promoting entrepreneurship, generating employment and organising the unorganised sector. A mentor to youth as well as few organisations, she is a very popular woman leader who leads with both her head and the heart and attracts talent effortlessly. Her career journey as well as personal life has been a compelling ride and inspires many.
