Mrs. Sindhuja Kandalam
Achiever's Success Story
Mrs. Sindhuja’s Successful Entrepreneurial Journey stands as an inspiration to the bussing women entrepreneurs
Mrs. Sindhuja Kandalam, comes from a simple middle-class background, whose parents were employed in the Government sector. She is a first- generation entrepreneur & one of the first female entrepreneurs in her family. She chose quite an unconventional career path for herself to which her parents had supported her whole heartedly. She is a National Institute of Fashion Technology, Chennai graduate with Bachelors Degree specialising in Knitwear Design (B. Des), something that was quite unusual and unheard of in her family.
She Co-Founded & started her own Firm called Young Trendz, an MSME with multiple brands under it (Young Trendz-The Brand, DUO Couple, Mode Rebel, Pink Trendz etc). The firm is completely bootstrapped and self-reliant & has scaled within less than 6-7 years from a small start up to a 20 million business venture in terms of turn over & more than 2.5 million in terms of Sale Orders, with over more than 150-200 workers in her manufacturing unit in Tirupur, Tamil Nadu. With absolutely zero knowledge about running a business it was left on her to make the right decisions for her career & her firm or to learn from her mistakes and gain experience. The firm has seen astounding success & growth at a very fast pace which is purely due to concept behind the Brand i.e. Fashionable, Affordable yet Trendy & Quirky Clothing (For Men, Women & Kids). Also, her brand is the first in India to introduce Couple Clothing as well.
The Journey Behind the Brand’s Success:- Sindhuja along with her fellow classmate now husband (Mr. Praween Kumar) decided to start something on their own quite early in their last year in college as placements also were far off. In case if their start up didn’t work, they still had the choice to go to the placements which clearly didn’t happen. Just like every business has to go through challenges, Sindhuja too had to go through her fair share of challenges as well. The organization had competition with both domestic & international brands. So, her products needed a long steep and were needed to be sold at affordable pricepoints for survival.
From her journey, Sindhuja understood that Success is the on-going process or journey and not the destination and realized that challenges are a part and parcel of everyday’s activity but can’t let it go to one’s heart or head.
Her advice to budding entrepreneurs is- “If you want to do something on your own, do it with immense amount of focus, clarity, passion and hard work. Just because somebody else’s venture is successful doesn’t mean you should quit your job and start up immediately. Take your time. Plan. Take calculated risks before going ahead. And once you do start something, stay till the end, never give up hope, keep yourself motivated throughout the journey and working hard till you succeed without ever looking back. Just remember No one is You and that is your power.”
