Mr. Mohan Rao Goli is the Corporate Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at Samsung R&D Institute India Pvt. Ltd., Bangalore (SRI-B). He has a rich industry experience of over 28 years in various capacities. He is the head of the end-to-end Technology development including communication protocols, IoT, cameras, AI, and Services. He is also responsible for building the Technology, Vision, Strategy, Design Thinking, and Software Engineering across Samsung India.
He brings in deep technical expertise in advanced communication R&D encompassing, 5G/6G standards and research, 5G terminal and network solution development and deployment in the global ecosystem. He is also an inventor with over 30 patents filed globally in communication networks, next-generation communication, and AI in wireless technologies.
He institutionalized research-to-market strategy in SRI-B’s CoEs via breakthrough innovation, end-to-end product development strategy, and leveraging of Indian strategic partnership, and ecosystem to create “World’s best” and “World’s 1st” flagship product features from Bangalore. He also forged a strategic partnership for balancing ‘Make-vs-Buy’ with over 12 Indian startups in the areas of AI, IoT, and consumer commerce. He even built a research quotient and future product competitiveness of SRI-B via research collaboration with over 10 Indian and international universities.
He led an upskilling program for engineering college students in India to make them industry-ready in AI/ML programming, IoT, Big Data, and Cloud Computing technologies via the Samsung PRISM program, Samsung Innovation Campuses, and Samsung Student Ecosystem for Engineered Data (SEED) Lab.
He even expanded the research outreach from Bangalore by driving 130+ research paper publications in top-rated international journals and conferences, such as Nature Scientific Reports, ICCV, Transactions on Wireless Communications, ICASSP, Interspeech, etc.
He built a high-quality global IP portfolio of over 9500 patents from Bangalore for Samsung. SRI-B is the No. 1 patent filing company in India under the private sector category consecutively for the last 8 years, from inventions made in India and first filed in India. He led the generation of over 165 Standard Essential Patents (SEPs) from Bangalore in Wireless Communication Technologies, such as WiFi, LTE, 5G, Network Security, and Systems.
The SEPs are creating a great business impact on Samsung’s business via its global IP licensing programs, which specialize in communication R&D encompassing the 5G/6G standards and pre-standards research and the 5G terminal and network solution development. He has spearheaded global 4G and 5G R&D programmes for Samsung Mobile business closely collaborating with eco-system partners across the world including VoLTE, 5G NSA/SA. He is also a key proponent of Open-source development. In addition to the Virtual core and Virtual RAN solutions, his team also contributes actively to the Open-RAN development.
