With a foundation in Mechanical Engineering—earning a BS degree from Osmania University, Hyderabad, and an MS degree from the University of Colorado—Karthik embarked on a journey to pioneer innovative medical devices for heart disease treatment.
Transitioning from an industrial background focused on developing products for oil and gas giants like GE, Karthik redirected his expertise to the creation of life-saving medical devices, notably within companies like J&J. At J&J, he served as an NPD R&D consulting engineer, championing the design and development of advanced ablation catheters to combat Arrhythmia, a heart condition. His team’s groundbreaking work resulted in innovative catheter components that significantly reduced procedural time while enhancing control, safety, and efficiency.
Subsequently, Karthik contributed his expertise to a startup medical device firm, JenaValve, dedicated to crafting catheters addressing aortic regurgitation caused by non-functional aortic valves—a condition potentially leading to heart failure and premature mortality. His role crucially supported JenaValve’s clinical studies by swiftly resolving catheter issues and implementing fixes without impeding the study’s progress. The CE mark approval for JenaValve’s Trilogy system solidified its status as the only device globally indicated for treating aortic regurgitation.
Presently, as the Principal R&D Engineer at HighLife Medical, another startup, Karthik spearheads the development of a catheter system for a clinical study encompassing patients with Mitral regurgitation—a different heart condition. His endeavors aim to enhance the current catheter system and design a next-generation iteration, emphasizing his continuous dedication to revolutionizing medical technology.
Karthik’s unwavering commitment remains rooted in the pursuit of pioneering products that combat fatal diseases, ultimately striving to save patient lives through cutting-edge innovations.
