Saytrees
A software developer, entrepreneur, and innovator with over 16 years of experience, Kapil Sharma is the Founder of SayTrees, a Non Governmental Organization that is fighting climate change and is a pioneer in environmental restoration in India. Under Kapil’s leadership, by 2030, SayTrees plans to restore 2 million hectares of land through tree planting and agroecological principles. 2 million farmers will be empowered because of this initiative. Via SayTrees he has funded some notable research and high-tech projects, all driving towards ecological restoration. Kapil is also a TEDx speaker and serves as Vice President at Goldman Sachs based out of Dallas, Texas.
Kapil has always gone beyond his day job to contribute to ecological and community well-being. Back in the 2000s, in the early days of his career, excessive tree cutting in the Bangalore city led him to start tree-planting drives on the weekend. This project spread across the country and led to the start of SayTrees. He strongly believes in collaboration and leverages a diverse set of solutions to solve the urgent ecological and climate crisis. He emphasizes every citizen’s role in reversing it.
Kapil’s zeal for bringing together stakeholders across different sectors has inspired over many 1000s of people to volunteer their time planting trees and rejuvenating lakes. He sees the culmination of his work panning out to support the country and in turn, the world in its fight against climate change, environmental and ecological deterioration. He is constantly working on empowering his team at SayTrees, his community, and the extended nation.
Kapil quantitative goal is to restore 2 million hectares of land in India by 2030. Qualitatively, he wishes to grow awareness and empower individuals to contribute to the environment and live healthily and joyfully. He wants people to understand the importance of trees and what it means to breathe fresh air and live amidst chirping birds and scuttling animals. He envisions a world where this is the norm and we are not scrambling to safeguard ourselves from climate-induced climate calamities. He believes that we deserve lives that are enriched by the soil and clean water and his work with SayTrees is a huge push in this direction.
