Being the Fourth Generation in business, Mr. Jay Shah aims to take forward Bharat Tin Works’ legacy and contributing to the nation’s growth
Mr. Jay A. Shah, the fourth-generation in Bharat Tin Works, joined the family-owned business in 2016 after completing his master’s degree in International Business and Management, from the University of Manchester, United Kingdom. After living and studying in the UK and understanding the scope and the potential that metal packaging industry possesses globally, he decided to come back to India and join the family-owned business under the guidance and leadership of his father, Mr. Ashok G. Shah who has been overlooking the operations of Bharat Tin Works since 1989 and is currently the Chairman of the company.
Established in 1965 in Mumbai, Bharat Tin Works is one of the oldest metal-can manufacturers in India and the pioneers in the metal-packaging industry. They are the manufacturers and exporters of tin containers, printed sheets and components for the paint, food, dairy, agro, pharmaceutical, chemical and cosmetics industries. With the state-of-art printing and can-making infrastructure with machineries from Europe and East-Asia, they offer the largest range of metal packaging solutions for their customers. Bharat Tin Works is a key supplier of metal cans for more than 90 customers which include major Indian and multinational corporations like Asian Paints, Pidilite Industries, Britannia, BASF, Zydus Healthcare and many more. They also export to Middle-East, Africa, Sri Lanka and United Kingdom.
Soon after joining Bharat Tin Works in 2016, Mr. Jay realized that there is immense potential to grow and identified areas that needed attention. He was made the Managing Partner in 2018. The company has continuously grown since then. Presently, Jay looks after the business development, technological development, domestic and international sales for the company whereas Mr. Ashok looks after the finance, sales and overall operations of the company.
Mr. Jay has always been more inclined towards business and technological development and as a result after he joined the company in 2016, he has helped BTW to develop many new products and expand their client base in the fashion industry like tin cases for wrist watches, food cans as well as opened up export business in the Middle-East which were earlier being imported/sourced from Far-East countries. He has also been actively involved in bringing in new technology and upgrading the can-making processes in the company. In 2018, BTW imported a fully-automatic high-speed can-making line from Europe for food cans and in 2020 another fully-automatic line from East Asia for paint cans further investments have been made in technology to upgrade the current machineries and processes to enhance the overall capacity as well as ensure quality products for their clients.
Mr. Jay is a visionary at work and strongly believes there is no shortcut to hard-work. He says, “Right quality, right price and right service are the three R’s to follow to achieve success in any industry and foresees to grow BTW’s legacy as well as contribute to the nations growth”.
