Dr. Kunal Sharma serves as the Associate Director & Head (Centre of Excellence and Histopathology) at Mumbai Reference Lab, SRL Diagnostics & leads the Digital Pathology & Artificial Intelligence initiatives for SRL. He was previously spearheading the Depts of Histopathology & Flowcytometry at SRL Laboratory & Fortis Hospitals, Bangalore where he was also in-charge of the reference centre of Uropathology.
He has been a keynote speaker, presenter & faculty at numerous prestigious national & international conferences like Indian Cancer Congress, Oncocon, IMSOS, ISMPOCON, Innovations in Oncology, Global Cancer Congress (Japan), PATHSOC(UK), CAP (USA), etc.
He also has numerous publications in journals of high repute like Archives of Pathology, American Journal of Hematology etc. His study on double & triple hit lymphomas, one of the largest from India, was presented at the International Leukemia, Lymphoma & Myeloma Congress, New York. He again presented a series on the pathological and cytogenetic characteristics of CD5 negative Mantle cell lymphomas at the same conference for the year 2022, held in October.
He sits on the editorial board of various journals. He is the Chief editor of Hematolymphoid neoplasms section with PathPresenter which is one of the most acclaimed DP & AI platform globally & he is a member of the Digital Pathology Association, USA.
He has written numerous industry articles in leading media publications like The Times of India, ET HealthWorld, Firstpost etc. which have been hailed as some of the most shared and insightful articles on various aspects of diagnostics. He has also been quoted regularly as a leading industry expert on various healthcare matters in the media.
He has been actively involved in policy making in diagnostics through his advisory role to GOK (Govt of Karnataka). He was a team member of Covid Raksha initiative of honourable MP Shri Tejasvi Surya & was instrumental in key decisions like the withdrawal of IDSP protocols which increased Covid testing by 40%.
He was awarded the ‘COVID 19 State Welfare Icon of the year’ in 2020 and ‘The Most Dynamic Specialist Professional Pathologist of the year’ at Healthcare Summit & Awards 2022. He was also felicitated with the ‘HDFC Neighbourhood Hero’ award for his work during COVID 19.
With a prescriber base spanning across continents, he’s an internationally renowned oncopathologist known for his expertise in diagnosing the most difficult oncology cases and for his key areas of latest molecular and companion diagnostic assays in different cancers.
