Dr. Chakradhar Maddela- a knight in shining armor
Having graduated from Osmania University, Hyderabad, Dr. Chakradhar Maddela is a 30yr old medical practioner, and has specialized in paediatrics and super specialized in neonatal medicine from Cardiff University and Southampton university, UK and in echocardiology. He is also a trained professional in neonatal neurology, EEG management, diabetology, emergency medicine, invasive and non-invasive ventilation and medical research.
He has published research articles in indexed journals, researchgate and has his own YOUTUBE channel and medical apps. He migrated from a metropolitan city, Hyderabad to a remote rural area, Metpally, Telangana in 1995 on people’s request to serve the children in rural India as India lives in villages. Metpally experienced its highest neonatal and under 5 mortality and morbidity before 1995. It was Dr. Chakradhar who established 1st children’s hospital with 1st NICU and paediatric emergency services round the clock. He gradually upgraded the unit with modern equipment and services like invasive – non-invasive ventilation, surfactant therapy for preterm babies, bedside echocardiology for hemodynamics, shock and congenital heart disease evaluation, management and in time referral for cardiac surgeries, neurosonogram, therapeutic hypothermia, EEG for birth asphyxiated babies and neurological babies, thyroid, eye and hearing screening for neonates.
He is also connected to district medical college for proper referral services and involved in medical education and teaching. He has partnered with NGOs like Rotary club, Lion’s club, Metpally doctors association and local officials in implementation of national programs like pulse polio immunization, deworming children, health camps and performed family planning surgeries in local government health centres (no scalpel vasectomies and tubectomies). He took active role in formation of local IMA and conducted various health screening and treatment programmes in social welfare hostels and vaccinated infants freely for five years in his private clinic.
