Prompted by a burning desire to give back the Land of Oman/Farmers its due exposure combined with mother India consumers to taste the 1st time World Class hygienic Omani Black Fard Dates/Date Syrup prompted Mr. Ramesh’s Indian marketing success as a pioneer in Dates Industry.
During the same time he conceived the idea, Omani Date factory opened in 1995. His marketing concept/strategy to represent Omani Date Flakes, a simple visiting card with no office in India accepted by M.D. Appointed in Apr’ 1996 after so many meetings and left Oman with family from his good assignment as Marketing Mgr in Golden Pearl Jewelry, in spite of his M.D. desisting not to leave his job. Sheer passion to market the best dates/syrup was his only goal. From 1998-2007, he was employed by Tomoor Oman/Oman Dates International LLC due to management changes.
While majority of business community including F.M.C.G. majors accepted the quality, resistance was on price when compared to 150 k tons of red dates only available then. He had to evolve a different strategy to test market the product by retail major in Bangalore during Diwali and 1 ton products air lifted vanished in no time. It gave him a great confidence and convinced a Chennai entrepreneur to take the 1st container to get a feel of Chennai by giving Bangalore example. This also got sold. Then he convinced a date’s industry major in Tamil Nadu to visit Oman and gave him the strategy of Oman dates/syrup branding. This act, followed by ad campaigns had given a tremendous mileage to the product and 100”s of containers was sold. In the meantime he had coordinated with Mumbai importers to push their products in other parts of country to wholesale dealers since awareness had already started by branding.
2020 Indian market scenario:
From 150k tons in 1996 imports, Indian market has grown to 550k tons with many date products/value additions, tissue culture date plantations. He is proud of his professional strategy resulting in immense business/employment opportunities/farmer’s growth in the industry.
He believes that everyone should give back the land/nature/country which gave you the growth opportunity to return in multi fold by way of innovation/conviction in your goals. It is possible to achieve the impossible with minimum tools in Marketing. Conviction, hard, smart work, desire to succeed are key’s.

Five Decades of Empowering India’s Marginalized Through Gandhian Ideals
For nearly five decades, the Action for Welfare and Awakening in Rural Environment (AWARE) Group, an Indian non-governmental organization, has stood as a beacon of transformation for India’s most marginalized communities. Founded on November 5, 1975, in Hyderabad by visionary anthropologist Dr. P.K.S. Madhavan, AWARE began not as a research project, but as a life-long commitment to uplift the oppressed—particularly the Chenchu tribes, Harijans, and socio-economically disadvantaged women.
Inspired deeply by the philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi, AWARE’s core belief is that true development comes not from aid alone, but from “awakening”—empowering people to identify their problems, craft solutions, and build lives of dignity and self-reliance.
From a modest start in just three villages, AWARE has grown to reach over 8,760 villages across multiple states. Its wide-ranging impact speaks volumes:
A hallmark of AWARE’s model is sustainability: after 8–10 years, the organization withdraws from a village, having empowered residents to sustain progress independently. Over 6,000 villages now thrive on their own, proving the effectiveness of this exit strategy.
Despite numerous challenges and threats, Dr. Madhavan’s unwavering dedication has fueled a peaceful revolution rooted in Gandhian values. AWARE remains a shining example of how grassroots activism, when powered by vision and trust in community capacity, can reshape the destiny of a nation.

On 10th June 2025, Indian Air Force Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla will be the pilot on the Dragon spacecraft commanded by US astronaut Peggy Whitson with Poland’s Slawosz Uznanski-Wisiniewski and Hungary’s Tibor Kapu as mission specialists on the Axiom Mission 4 (Ax-4) during their 14-day stay on the orbiting laboratory. He is set to fly to the International Space Station next week from a US spaceport aboard a SpaceX Dragon spacecraft, becoming the second Indian astronaut to journey into space, nearly four decades after Rakesh Sharma’s iconic 1984 Soyuz mission.
Commanded by veteran American astronaut Peggy Whitson, with Poland’s Slawosz Uznanski-Wisiniewski and Hungary’s Tibor Kapu as mission specialists, the Ax-4 crew will spend 14 days aboard the International Space Station (ISS), conducting over 60 science experiments, public outreach, and technology demonstrations.
A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket will launch the Ax-4 crew aboard the Dragon from Nasa’s Kennedy Space Centre in Florida on June 10. While aboard the ISS, the Ax-4 astronauts plan to conduct over 60 science experiments, public outreach and technology demonstrations. The launch was earlier set for June 8.
Shukla, a decorated combat pilot with over 2,000 flight hours, was selected as one of four astronauts for India’s upcoming Gaganyaan mission. Since August 2024, he and his backup, IAF Group Captain Prasanth Balakrishnan Nair, have been undergoing rigorous training across Axiom Space, NASA’s Johnson Space Centre, and SpaceX. “It’s been an amazing journey until now — the best is yet to come,” Shukla said at a countdown-to-launch media conference organised by Axiom Space, a US-based private aerospace company engaged in commercial missions to the ISS and working towards building the first commercial space station.
Shukla and fellow IAF group captain Prasanth Balakrishnan Nair, who’s serving as his designated backup, have been under training for the AX-4 mission since August 2024. All the AX-4 crew have undergone training at Axiom Space, Nasa’s Johnson Space Centre and SpaceX. The training has involved simulations of the launch and docking practice, emergency response drills, space station systems training and scientific payload operations.
“We’re ready to go, we’ve trained for all scenarios, bonded as a team,” said Whitson, who will be commanding her second commercial human spaceflight mission and add to her standing record of 675 days for the longest cumulative time in space by an American astronaut.
Among the experiments Shukla will carry for India are studies on microgravity’s impact on microalgae, including Spirulina—considered a potential superfood for long-duration missions. These experiments, developed through a collaboration between ISRO, India’s Department of Biotechnology, and NASA, aim to advance research on life-support systems in space. As Shukla prepares for liftoff, his mission marks a significant leap for India’s growing presence in space exploration.

Carlos Alcaraz wins fifth major title after defeating Jannik Sinner in Epic French Open Final.
On 9 June, Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner battled in a five-hour 29-minute classic that became the longest Roland Garros final in the Open Era. A forehand down the line winner later, it was Alcaraz who kept his flawless record in major finals alive.
In a French Open final for the ages, Carlos Alcaraz staged a breathtaking comeback to defeat Jannik Sinner 4-6, 6-7, 6-4, 7-6, 7-6 in the longest Roland Garros final in history.
Down two sets and facing three championship points in the fourth, Alcaraz dug deep to save them all and force a deciding fifth set. In the final act, after being broken while serving for the title, the 22-year-old Spaniard regrouped to seal victory in a super tie-break.
With the win, Alcaraz became just the third man in the Open Era to save a championship point en route to a Grand Slam title and only the third this century to defend the French Open crown.
“This was the most exciting match that I’ve played so far without a doubt,” said Alcaraz. “I think the match had everything.”Today was all about believing in myself. Never doubted myself today and I tried to go for it.””Real champions are made in those situations,” he added.
The match was razor-thin in margins. Sinner actually won more total points (193 of 385) and led by two sets and a break at one stage. But Alcaraz’s resilience turned the tide, cheered on by a passionate Parisian crowd.
Both players entered uncharted territory: Sinner had never won a match lasting over four hours, and Alcaraz had never come back from two sets down. Yet on this grandest stage, both elevated their game.
Alcaraz’s triumph came two weeks after witnessing idol Rafael Nadal’s emotional farewell on Court Philippe-Chatrier. Fittingly, Alcaraz’s fifth Slam came at the exact same age as Nadal at 22 years, 1 month, and 3 days, when he reached the same milestone.
With Alcaraz now leading their head-to-head 8-4, the budding rivalry with Sinner evokes comparisons to Federer vs Nadal.
“This is the first match in a Grand Slam final. Hopefully not the last time,” said Alcaraz.
“Because I mean, as I said many times, every time that we face each other, we raise our level to the top.”

Kanak Kanti Kar transforming Rural Education through Science, Service, and Spirit
Mr. Kanak Kanti Kar’s journey is not merely that of an educator, but of a visionary committed to reshaping the future of rural communities through education and scientific thinking. Mr. Kanak Kanti Kar completed M.Sc. in Physics, an M.A. in Education and B.Ed. He began his career as a school teacher and rose to become the Headmaster of two Consecutive Higher Secondary schools in remote corners of West Bengal – Birbhadrapur R.N. The schools in these secluded corners are plagued by deep-rooted superstitions, early school dropouts, child marriage, and extreme poverty. Teachership in remote village schools is not merely a profession but really a challenging service for a sincere teacher. After completion of school after class hour, Mr. Kar used to walk through these villages to meet parents, personally engaging with families to advocate for the importance of education. Despite repeated socio-political resistance, his efforts to motivate parents and students alike with mobile projectors and visual presentations using handmade aids helped increase school enrollment significantly.
Other than his regular teaching activities, he empowered students to become agents of social change by forming student groups involved in environmental protection, coastal cleanups, plantation drives, science exhibitions, street theatre, and telescope-based skywatching sessions. In 1984, Mr. Kar established a Science club ‘Egra Organisation for the Cultivation of Science’ to promote scientific awareness and also published ‘Pratiphalan,’ a magazine dedicated to science and literature, which he has edited and published since 1992. For Science popularisation and educational upliftment of rural folks, Mr. Kar has delivered at least 3000 lectures, composed 12 books on Science and literature, arranged 100+ sky observation camps and 100+ voluntary health camps in remote villages, and planted more than 1500 saplings including mangroves along Junput Coastal belt.
Even at 59 years of age, he takes classes at Baita MN High School (H.S.) all while managing his duties as Headmaster and carrying out his passion for science communication. After school, he frequently presents slide shows in both school and remote villages to inculcate scientific and patriotic spirit among students and folks.
His exceptional contributions have been recognized with numerous honors, including the Teacher Excellence Award from BBIT, Kolkata, the Mandakranta Sahitya Puraskar, and the Achievement Award for Science Popularisation from Egra OCS. His unwavering dedication to “man-making” through education and science is what sets Mr. Kar apart, making him a deserving recipient of the ‘Shiksha Bharati Award.”
