Rekha Gupta sworn in as Delhi’s 4th woman Chief Minister

Recognition AwardsRekha Gupta, the BJP’s choice for Chief Minister of Delhi and a first-time MLA from Shalimar Bagh, officially sworn in as the fourth woman chief minister of Delhi on Thursday. The grand ceremony was held at the iconic Ramlila Maidan, in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other bigwigs of the party. Alongside her, six cabinet ministers also sworn in at a mega event including Pravesh Verma, Manjinder Sirsa, Ashish Sood, Pankaj Kumar Singh, Ravinder Singh Indraj, and Kapil Mishra. Delhi LG V K Saxena administered the oath of office to Rekha Gupta and her council of ministers.

Gupta joins the ranks of Sushma Swaraj, Sheila Dikshit, and Atishi as the fourth woman to lead Delhi. Notably, she is also the only woman among the 13 BJP chief ministers across India and the second woman chief minister currently in office nationwide, after West Bengal’s Mamata Banerjee. Gupta’s foray into politics began with student leadership, where she made her mark as President of the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) in 1996–97. Over the years, she has emerged as a strong advocate for public service and women’s empowerment, earning recognition for her leadership and commitment to development.

As she takes charge, Gupta has outlined an ambitious agenda focused on key civic and infrastructural challenges. Her top priorities include the cleaning of the Yamuna river, the rollout of the Ayushman Bharat health insurance scheme in Delhi, ensuring beneficiaries receive up to ₹10 lakh in free medical treatment (₹5 lakh from the central government and an additional ₹5 lakh covered by the state), de-silting of roads and sewers in preparation for the monsoon season, a large-scale effort to remove garbage from Delhi’s streets and corners, as well as road repairs.

The BJP’s return to power in Delhi after 26 years marks a significant political shift. The party secured 48 of 70 assembly seats in the February 5 elections, ending the decade-long rule of Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). The BJP last had power in Delhi way back in 1993-98.

Rekha Gupta’s political journey and leadership roles reflect her significant contributions to public service and women’s empowerment.

From Public Innovation to Cloud Computing Leadership: Mr. Pratik Shilwant shares his journey of excellence

Mr. Pratik Shilwant has built a distinguished career in cloud computing, distributed systems, and large-scale experimentation, making significant contributions to cloud scalability, risk assessment, and AdTech experimentation at leading technology companies like Amazon and Twitter. His expertise in optimizing operational efficiency, decision-making processes, and digital advertising strategies has had a meaningful impact on the industry.

As a Software Development Engineer at Amazon, he has played a key role in scaling cloud infrastructure and improving automation for experimentation frameworks, contributing to innovations that have influenced cloud-based computing and digital experimentation methodologies. His contributions to AWS autoscaling technology were particularly noteworthy. He was a key contributor to two interrelated patents that played a critical role in the development of AWS Warm Pools, a feature designed to enhance cloud scalability, reduce operational latency, and improve resource management.

These patents focus on optimizing the initialization and lifecycle management of pre-initialized virtual machine instances, ensuring efficient resource utilization and faster scaling in cloud environments. Beyond cloud scaling, he also worked on risk evaluation and fraud detection frameworks, developing systems to improve fraud risk assessment and optimize refund decision-making processes. His ability to navigate complex risk models and cloud security challenges strengthened fraud prevention strategies. His passion for tackling real-world challenges began in 2008 when he took on a critical project to restore the PMPML public transport system website before the Commonwealth Youth Games in Pune, India. With the website down and no way for commuters or international visitors to access transit information, he rebuilt the database, reintroduced critical transit data, and developed a scalable backend solution. Going beyond a simple fix, he developed an SMS-based transport information system, allowing users to retrieve bus routes, schedules, and fare prices without needing internet access. This innovation, implemented at a time when smartphone usage was not widespread, significantly improved public transport accessibility. His work was featured in the Times of India, marking his first major impact on scalable system design for public infrastructure.

At SanDisk, he expanded his expertise into enterprise mobility and cloud integration, where he contributed to enterprise application development, cloud storage integration, and statistical forecasting for business intelligence. During his tenure at Twitter, he contributed to advancements in AdTech experimentation, focusing on budget-aware methodologies and large-scale A/B testing. His work played a key role in optimizing advertising strategies across supply-side and demand-side operations, ensuring that experiments were conducted efficiently and cost-effectively while improving revenue generation. At Twitter, he also worked on a self-serve experimentation platform that allowed advertisers to run large-scale A/B tests, enabling faster and more accurate decision-making in AdTech strategies. He contributed to machine learning infrastructure for AdTech, developing a front-end reporting platform, self-service metrics system, and scalable feature store for statistical computations.

Beyond his technical expertise, he is actively involved in mentorship, industry judging, and technical education. His leadership has helped shape the next generation of engineers, ensuring that future technology leaders are equipped with real-world industry expertise. As an Awards Judge, he has evaluated global innovations. As a 2U EdX Tech Mentor, he has guided students through industry-focused boot camps, helping them develop real-world engineering skills. Gyanesh-Kumar

Gyanesh Kumar appointed as the 26th Chief Election Commissioner, EIC bids farewell to Rajiv Kumar

Recognition AwardsGyanesh Kumar, who served as election commissioner since March 2024, was officially appointed as chief election commissioner (CEC), on 17 January 2025. This maintains the convention of the seniormost election commissioner being elevated to the top post. However, for the first time, this convention was adhered to with the formal approval of the selection committee comprising Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi. Vivek Joshi, a 1989-batch IAS officer currently posted as Haryana chief secretary, has been appointed as election commissioner, restoring the EC’s strength to a three-member body following the retirement of Rajiv Kumar.

Rajiv Kumar, a retired 1988 batch IAS officer, was allocated to the Kerala cadre, and has served several key positions in his home cadre and at the Centre. He retired in January last year as Secretary of the Ministry of Cooperation. He was an Additional Secretary in charge of the J&K division in the Home Ministry when Article 370 was nullified in the erstwhile state. In his farewell address, CEC Shri Rajiv Kumar thanked the 15 million polling officials for their dedication to uphold democratic values. He asserted that the trust of close to nearly a billion voters is unfazed by motivated and uncorroborated attacks on India’s democratic institutions. As a proponent of technology, Shri Kumar outlined a path for strengthening conduct of elections while guarding against the threats of cyber-attacks and misinformation on social media. He lauded the voters for their vibrant participation especially women voters and said that the electoral process is marching towards more inclusivity.Joshi, going purely by the seniority principle, will be CEC after Gyanesh Kumar retires on January 27, 2029.

This convention marks the first instance since the enactment of the CEC and Other ECs (Appointment, Conditions of Service and Term of Office) Act, 2023, that a CEC has been appointed by a collegium or selection committee. Both Rajiv Kumar and Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu was appointed as election commissioners in March last year, by the selection committee as proposed by the law.

The legislation followed the direction of the Supreme Court to the government in March 2023 to set up a committee comprising the Prime Minister, Chief Justice of India, and LoP in the Lok Sabha as members until the Parliament enacted a law providing for a collegium process for the appointment of the CEC and election commissioners.

IAA for Business Leadership

Effective leadership, and not the management itself, factors in for an organizational success. Turning a team into a “Talent” takes someone with the passion, preparation and patience to make others the best they can be. Michael Wellin enumerated the most basic principles of leadership: direction, relations, and engagement of both brain hemispheres. ‘Direction’ is the most important for leadership and means following a given direction to achieve the goal. ‘Relations’ are another important element of leadership and mean influencing other people and establishing relationships which allows them to achieve their goals. ‘Engaging both hemispheres’ means extensive use of the brain for reasonable and intuitive decision making”.

A Manager is not always a Leader. Managers fulfil specific roles and evaluate the work of their subordinates. Leaders help guide their people (both individuals, groups and entire organisations as well) in establishing goals and support them in actions taken to achieve common goals. A leader leads the organization towards the right path and inspires several others to move towards betterment. Effective leadership goes beyond managing tasks and resources—it embodies the ability to inspire, influence, and empower others to work collectively toward a shared vision. Leadership is also about making tough decisions while maintaining integrity and accountability. Another hallmark of effective leadership is the ability to communicate effectively, articulating their vision with clarity and conviction. Emotional intelligence and social skills is the final key component to empathize with the team and  build strong relationships. The best leaders frequently combine a variety of leadership qualities, including vision, empathy, and creativity. However, the most effective leaders are able to adjust to the demands of various circumstances, using their varied range of leadership talents to accomplish their objectives.

Indian Achiever’s Forum acknowledges these leaders who are selflessly focussed towards achieving intended results and reward them with “IAA for Business Leadership” for altruistically helping in the over-all progress of their organization. This accolade honors individuals who have gone above and beyond in driving organizational success while prioritizing the well-being of their teams. These leaders exemplify ‘leadership’ by combining strategic vision, emotional intelligence, and an unwavering resolve.
