India Clinch Maiden Women’s World Cup Title defeating South Africa by a historic 52-Run Triumph

India Women’s World Cup 2025

In a landmark moment for Indian cricket, the Indian women’s team clinched their first-ever ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup title, defeating South Africa by 52 runs at the Dr. DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai. The victory marks not just a sporting triumph but also a defining statement on what investment, equality, and belief in women’s sports can achieve.

Batting first after being put in, India put up a formidable 298 for 7, powered by stellar half-centuries from Shafali Verma (87) and Deepti Sharma (58). The hosts appeared poised to breach the 350-run mark before South Africa fought back with disciplined bowling in the final overs.

In reply, South Africa’s captain Laura Wolvaardt led a valiant chase with a fluent 101, but her dismissal triggered a collapse. From a steady 209/5, the visitors crumbled to 246 all out in 45.3 overs, with Deepti Sharma wreaking havoc to return outstanding figures of 5 for 39.

Shafali Verma complemented her batting heroics with crucial breakthroughs, while young Sree Charani bowled a nerveless spell in the death overs to seal the win. The packed stadium erupted as India’s players celebrated a victory years in the making.

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has congratulated the Indian team on their spectacular win in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 Finals.

“A spectacular win by the Indian team in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 Finals. Their performance in the final was marked by great skill and confidence. The team showed exceptional teamwork and tenacity throughout the tournament. Congratulations to our players. This historic win will motivate future champions to take up sports.”

This historic victory is more than just a milestone in Indian cricket. With equal pay, increased visibility, and unwavering public support, the Indian women’s team has proven that investment in women yields champions. As the tricolour waved high over Navi Mumbai, this triumph became a new inspiring symbol to dream big and play bold.
