Dr. Syed Nazeer Mahmood is a distinguished Pulmonary and Critical Care physician and the Medical Director of Respiratory Therapy and Pulmonary Rehabilitation at Bayhealth Hospital in Delaware, USA. A dynamic leader in clinical innovation and patient-centered care, he has spearheaded initiatives to expand and modernize critical respiratory services across the health system.
In addition to his directorial role, Dr. Mahmood serves as Associate Program Director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Bayhealth. Through this role, he mentors young physicians, shaping them into thoughtful, skilled, and empathetic clinicians.
Dr. Mahmood earned his medical degree from the renowned Kasturba Medical College in India, where his passion for service led him to volunteer at free clinics. During residency, he further broadened his global perspective through a clinician service trip to Tanzania, where he worked at a rural clinic delivering care to underserved populations- an experience that deepened his lifelong commitment to health equity.
He is also a publisher researcher, peer reviewer and journal editor with ongoing studies exploring intersections of lung health, cardiovascular disease, and novel therapeutics. Whether it is guiding future doctors, spearheading clinical programs, or advocating for lung health in underserved communities, Dr. Mahmood embodies the spirit of transformative leadership in modern medicine.
A Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians and recipient of the Indian Achiever’s Award, Dr. Mahmood is recognized for his clinical excellence and academic contributions.
