The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 changed world economies altogether. The pandemic created huge inflation and economic depression in all over the world economies, including India. In the wake of international trade disruptions, the crisis gave birth to conceptualization of Aatmanirbhar Bharat: an abhiyaan to strengthen India’s domestic market and reduce its reliance on imports and services. Aatmanirbhar Bharat is an extension of ‘Make in India’. It aims to boost manufacturing, support MSMEs (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises), strengthen agriculture and healthcare infrastructure, and promote the Vocal for Local movement. The initiative seeks to generate more employment, saving the nation’s money from exporting goods that can be used to manufacture in India and to create a conducive environment for investments.
Atmanirbhar Bharat envisions to make the nation and its citizens independent and self-sufficient in every sense. Five pillars of Atmanirbhar Bharat – Economy, Infrastructure, System, Vibrant Demography and Demand. Economy: The aim of the Abhiyaan is to generate quantum growth in the economy as compared to gradual growth. Infrastructure: The country must build infrastructure facilities with an additional lookout for Golden Quadrilateral, East -West and North -South Corridors, Green Expressways and hassle-free Freight and passengers’ corridors etc. that fulfill international standards to become a modern nation. are specific in this regard. System: The aim of the Abhiyaan is to improve modern technologies particularly adoption of ICT, Artificial intelligence etc. Demography: India’s strength and ability to become the largest democracy rests in its vibrant demography. We are the generation of innovative, creative and young population that is the source of a successful Indian economy. Demand: Strengthening supply chains and domestic consumption plays a crucial role in driving sustainable economic growth.
