With over 20 years of professional experience, he has earlier worked as (a) Associate Partner at McKinsey & Co., serving some of the leading institutions in India across financial services and industrial sectors (b) National Head of Strategy at Axis Bank ($10bn+ turnover) responsible for the strategy and inorganic acquisitions of the bank as well as its subsidiaries, and (c) VP and Business Head at ABP Pvt Ltd. (media company), in a P&L leadership role of the flagship print publication Ananda Bazar Patrika (daily readership of over 3.5 million). He has also built an e-learning platform of his own in an entrepreneurial capacity.

He specializes in the transformation of organizational performance across sectors. As a consultant with McKinsey & Company, he has led the transformation of one of the largest Indian PSU banks with a 5x growth in profits and market cap in 4 years. He has led Axis Bank’s acquisition of Citibank’s India retail portfolio – a deal worth about $2bn, thus catapulting the bank’s market position in the Indian retail banking landscape. At ABP, he has delivered – 2 times over – the highest-ever profit in the company’s history of 100 years and has also engineered the company’s foray into digital media, from a traditional print media play. At Peerless he is leading a transformation that has, within 3 years, led to a turnaround of profit trajectory from -11% (6-yr CAGR before transformation) to +18% (3-yr CAGR after transformation). This has been a result of strategic growth moves, thoughtful disinvestments, and targeted improvement in productivity.

He is a Graduate of the Harvard Business School and INSEAD Business School President’s gold medalist from IIM Calcutta, a Mechanical Engineer from IIT Kharagpur, and 1st rank-holder in the West Bengal Higher Secondary Examination (Std XII, out of approx. 100,000 students) and the 10th rank in the West Bengal Madhyamik Examination (Std X, out of approx. 300,000 students).

He is an avid wildlife fan, with 2000+ hours of safari game drives across Africa, India, and Sri Lanka. His encounters include spotting lions on foot, swimming with sharks, sleeping overnight in an all-open treehouse deep in the African bush, and more. He has authored (a) a coffee table book on African wildlife based on personal experiences and (b) a book on management lessons derived from wildlife. He is also a TEDx speaker, specializing in synthesizing management lessons from nature and wildlife. In his spare time, Supriyo plays the Tabla and Mouth Organ.
