Mr. Qazi Mairaj Ahmad is a Railway Infrastructure, Operations, and Innovations turnaround expert. He has meticulously commissioned Infrastructural Projects of Railways Doubling, New Lines, Gauge Conversion, Electrification, Yard Remodeling, and Traffic Facility Works including Bridges, Tracks, Buildings, Signaling, and Electrification including comprehensive Project Management, Survey, Contracts & Arbitration Management. As a part of high-level Railways Zonal & Divisional Operations and Financial Management, he has delivered enhancement of Throughput, Mobility, Capacity Augmentation, Benchmarking Financial Performance & KPI Monitoring. As a leader in innovations, he has made business turnarounds through Automation & Reengineering, Enterprise Resource Planning, Urban Transport and High Speed, Application Software for Fabrication line assembly, and Original Implementer of Rail Material Management & Design Mode Track Tamping.
He had been Divisional Railway Manager & Additional Divisional Railway Manager (Operation & Infrastructure) Northern Railway Lucknow; Chief Engineer, Track Modernization & Mass Rapid Transport System, NR; CWM Bridge Works NR; and Chief Engineer Construction NER. He had also served in RDSO, CORE, NWR, WCR, and CR in different capacities and delivered infrastructure projects.
He has shown tremendous achievements in the execution of 468.1 km of railway doubling, Gauge Conversion & New Lines including Bridges, Signaling, Electrification to the Target, Funds, and Quality Construction. He completed Track Renewals 182 km, Deep Screening 811 km, Alumino-Thermit Welding 43780 no’s, 833 thousand cum Ballasting, Scrap Collections 1,17,000mt and renovated along with Signaled Interlocking Major yards 13 no’s including Varanasi, Rewari, Lucknow, Jabalpur, Pune, Bina, Satna, Naini and Chhapra.
He has been instrumental in Innovations: designing, developing, and implementing “e-Setu ERP” Enterprise Resources Planning Application for Steel Girder Fabrication of Major Workshops; Permanent Way Material Management System, and Design Mode of Tamping. He implemented Railway Planning at the Organization of “Kumbh”/Prayagraj Infrastructure, Operations & Management, honored by the Hon’ble PM of India. Implemented Railway’s Planning and executed Infrastructural works of development of 3 Stations, 4 Road-Over-Bridges, 6 Under-Bridges & with Operational Excellence during 250m congregation of Kumbh-19.
He belongs to the IRSE 1991 batch, has graduated from IIT Roorkee in Civil Engineering & studied MTech at IIT Delhi. Educated with MBA (Post Graduate Diploma in Operations Management) from IMT, GZB & possesses acclaimed Project Management Professional PMP® USA Certification. Alumni of Harvard University for Strategic Leadership, INSEAD Singapore, ICLIF Kuala-Lumpur, ISB Hyderabad. He is a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers (FICE, London), a Member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, USA (MASCE), Fellow and Royal Chartered Engineer, Institution of Engineers India (IEI). He is a registered Independent Director by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Govt of India, and an Environmental Social Governance ESG Expert certified by the World Council of Directors.
