At Yahoo he was part of the security team that responded to the world’s largest data breach in history. Furthermore, he has contributed to building the latest version (4.0) of the internet standard for scoring vulnerabilities named as Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS). CVSS is an internet standard that is adopted by companies and organizations worldwide to score the severity of vulnerabilities including National Vulnerability Database (NVD) (the U.S. government repository of standards-based vulnerability management), Open Source Vulnerability Database (OSVDB) (independent and open-sourced vulnerability database), CERT Coordination Center (CERT/CC) (Coordination center of the computer emergency response team (CERT) for the Software Engineering Institute (SEI), a non-profit United States federally funded research and development center).

He has been widely featured in the major media like Hakin9 magazine, forensic focus news etc as an expert. He has delivered talks at national and international conferences like Tech Ex North America, Tech Summit SF, BSides Las Vegas with thousands of attendees to influence the private and public sectors. Karan was featured as a subject matter expert in the new Google Cybersecurity Certificate program which was launched in May 2023 on coursera which had an enrollment of over 41000 students in a few weeks. Furthermore, he has served as an advisor to startups, editorial board member in international journals related to security and judged competitions at a global scale.

He holds a bachelor’s degree from Manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal, India and a master’s degree in Information Security from Carnegie Mellon University, USA.
