Ms. Rekha Sharma

Ms. Rekha Sharma assumed the charge of Chairperson, National Commission for Women on August 7, 2018. Previously Smt. Sharma held the additional charge of the Chairperson (I/C), National Commission for Women with effect from September 29, 2017. Smt. Sharma has been a Member of the Commission since August, 2015. Before joining the Commission, Smt. Sharma was actively associated with civil society organizations in different capacities. Smt. Sharma has worked extensively on issues impacting women’s lives. She has conducted over 50 inquiries in matters relating to deprivation of women’s rights and liberty. Smt. Sharma has been championing the cause of vulnerable sections of women, including women workers in tea gardens that have been closed, and women in shelter homes. The issues related to female prisoners are particularly close to her heart. She has actively been advocating for improving the conditions of the women prisoners, especially the undertrails. She has been visiting a number of jails and made recommendations for improving the facilities provided to the jail inmates. During her time at the Commission, Smt. Sharma has pro-actively been pursuing the concerns of the Indian women deserted by their NRI husbands living abroad including issues related to child custody. She has also extensively worked on the cases related to sexual harassment of women. Smt. Sharma has also conducted numerous capacity building programmes for police personnel in India. In addition, she has chaired a large number of Mahila Jan Sunwais/ Public Hearings, across the country, in which, over 2,000 complaints have been addressed. Married to an Army Officer, she has worked towards promoting better standard of living and education for wives and children of soldiers to make them more self reliant in order to brave the day-to-day rigors and challenges of the Army life. Prior to joining the Commission, she was a Member of the District Consumer & Redressal Forum in the Government of Haryana. Smt. Sharma has also been instrumental in the establishment of a registered NGO called ‘Haryana Mahila Uthan Samiti’ which works for the empowerment of rural women in the state.

Dr. Subramanian Swamy

Subramanian Swamy (born 15 September 1939) is an Indian politician, economist, statistician and polymath who serves as a nominated Member of Parliament in Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Indian Parliament. Swamy has served as a member of the Planning Commission of India and was a Cabinet Minister in the Chandra Shekhar government. Earlier in November 1978, Swamy was member of the Group of Eminent persons and was called to Geneva, Switzerland to prepare a report of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) on Economic Co-operation between Developing countries (ECDC). Swamy also simplified trade procedures and formulated a new export strategy which became the forerunner of trade reform adopted subsequently. In 1994, Swamy was Chairman of the Commission on Labour Standards and International Trade by former Prime Minister P. V. Narasimha Rao. He also serves as chairman of the Board of Governors of the SCMS Group of Educational Institutions in Kerala. He has written on foreign affairs of India dealing largely with People’s Republic of China (PRC), Pakistan and Israel. He was nominated to Rajya Sabha on 26 April 2016.

Dr. Bhaskar Chatterjee is widely acclaimed as the Father of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in our country. He was instrumental in framing and issuing the CSR guidelines for Public Sector Enterprises (PSEs) in April, 2010. Thereafter, he played a major role in the inclusion of Section 135 in the Companies Act of 2013 and in the framing of the rules thereafter. Today, as the DG & CEO of the Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (IICA), he spearheads the National Foundation for Corporate Social Responsibility (NFCSR). Dr. Chatterjee is also a widely acclaimed management practitioner, theorist and teacher and has been writing on issues of social and sustainable development, corporate responsibility and human resources. He joined the Indian Administrative Service in 1975 and has held many distinguished positions. In 2008-09, he was the Principal Adviser in the Planning Commission. He was part of the team responsible for shaping India’s response to the global economic crisis of 2009. Dr. Chatterjee is a prolific writer. In 1990, his first path breaking work entitled “Japanese Management – Maruti and the Indian Experience” was published. Thereafter, in 2009, he wrote his famous book “Human Resource Management – A Contemporary Text”. His widely acclaimed book, “Leadership India – Leading Change, Changing Lives” was released at the World HRD Congress in February, 2011. Dr. Chatterjee has most recently authored his book entitled “Sustainable Futures – Imperatives for Managing the Social Agenda”. Today, as the Director General & CEO of the IICA, Dr. Chatterjee is preparing strategies for capacity development, knowledge dissemination and quality research.

Ninong Ering (born 3 January 1959) is an Indian politician, belonging to the Indian National Congress. He represents Arunachal East (Lok Sabha constituency) in Lok Sabha, the lower house of Indian Parliament.

Ering was a member of the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly representing Pasighat East constituency as an independent candidate from 1990-1995. In 1995, he again contested from the same constituency as an independent candidate, but he was defeated by the Congress candidate Tobar Jamoh. From 1999-2004 he again became a member of the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly representing the same constituency as a Congress candidate. From 1999–2002, he was the Minister of State of the Government of Arunachal Pradesh and from 2002–2004, he was the Deputy Speaker of the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly. In 2009, he was elected to the 15th Lok Sabha. He was re-elected to 16th Lok Sabha from the same constituency in 2014.

K. K. Aggarwal is an Indian physician and cardiologist who is President CMAAO, President of the Heart Care Foundation of India and the Past National President of Indian Medical Association. The Government of India honoured him, in 2010, with the award of Padma Shri, the fourth-highest civilian award, for his contributions to the field of medicine.

He did his MBBS from Nagpur University in 1979 and obtained an MD from the same university in 1983. He was a senior consultant at Moolchand Medcity, New Delhi, India, until 2017 He has published many books on health including Alloveda, 6 textbook chapters on echocardiography and thousands of articles in national and international press. He is one of the pioneers of streptokinase therapy for heart attack in India and introduced the technique of Colour Doppler Echocardiography in India, Dr Aggarwal has been honored with the Dr. B. C. Roy Award, the highest Indian award in the medical category, in 2005. He is also a recipient of Vishwa Hindi Samman, National Science Communication Award, FICCI Health Care Personality of the Year Award, Dr D S Mungekar National IMA Award, and the Rajiv Gandhi Excellence Award, In 2010, he received the Padma Shri. Sanjeev Bikhchandani is an Indian businessman, who is the founder and executive vice chairman of Info Edge which owns Naukri.com, a job portal, as well as the co-founder of Ashoka University.

He attended St. Columba’s School, Delhi and finished schooling from there in 1981. There after, he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi, (Delhi University) in 1984. He completed his MBA from IIMA in 1989.

Sanjeev after his PG left a job marketing Horlicks at HMM (now known as GlaxoSmithKline) in 1990 to set up two companies Indmark and Info Edge along with a partner.The first company specialized in pharmaceutical trademarks and the second produced salary surveys and reports. In 1993, he and his partner decided to go separate ways. Both partners got one company each. Sanjeev got Info Edge. In 1997, Bikhchandani set up Naukri.com, jobs portal on a server in the United States, and later Quadrangle, an offline executive search business. In 2005, Naukri.com was reported as being India’s largest web-based employment site.

Building up in the websites business, Infoedge later launched other classified sites like 99acres in real estate, Jeevansathi in matrimony and Shiksha in education.

He is also an astute investor, having invested in unicorns like Policybazaar and Zomato.

He won the Ernst and Young – Entrepreneur of the Year award in 2008.
