Success Story

Kartik vyas solo

In an increasingly complex financial ecosystem where regulatory expectations continue to evolve, professionals who combine governance, technology, and ethical leadership play a critical role in safeguarding institutions. Among them is Kartikay Vyas, ACBI (UK), M.IOD, CALM, LSSYB, JAIIB, a banking and financial crime compliance professional whose work has contributed to strengthening compliance frameworks and risk governance across India’s financial services sector.

With more than thirteen years of experience spanning banking, governance, regulatory compliance, enterprise risk management, and financial crime prevention, Kartikay has built a career focused on developing practical compliance solutions that help organisations navigate evolving regulatory landscapes while maintaining operational resilience.

His contributions have been recognised with the Business Mint Nationwide Under 40 – 2026 recognition in the Financial Crime Compliance Leader – 2026 category, celebrating young professionals who are making a measurable impact within their industries through leadership, expertise, and innovation.

Building a Career Around Trust and Compliance

Currently serving as Principal Officer & Designated Director (FIU) – GIFT City (Offshore) at Axis Trustee Services Limited, Kartikay oversees key areas including Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Know Your Customer (KYC), Counter-Terrorist Financing (CFT), sanctions compliance, regulatory governance, and financial crime risk management.

His professional journey began in 2013 at a Chartered Accountant firm before progressing through roles with organisations including Bandhan Bank, Axis Bank Limited, Confiance BizSol Private Limited (KPO), and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). Across these assignments, he gained experience in compliance transformation, governance enhancement, operational risk mitigation, regulatory implementation, and stakeholder engagement.

Throughout his career, Kartikay has maintained a consistent focus on helping organisations strengthen governance frameworks while supporting sustainable business growth through effective regulatory compliance.

Advancing Compliance Within India’s Emerging Financial Ecosystem

One of Kartikay’s notable professional achievements has been leading the implementation of a comprehensive Financial Crime Compliance ecosystem for a trustee organisation operating within GIFT International Financial Services Centre (GIFT IFSC).

The initiative involved end-to-end policy development, regulatory implementation, process design, technology integration, software testing, and alignment with applicable regulatory requirements.

The project helped establish an integrated compliance framework within the trustee ecosystem, supporting stronger governance while enabling efficient regulatory operations.

Technology as a Strategic Enabler

Having specialised in financial crime compliance since 2018, Kartikay believes the future of compliance will increasingly be shaped by artificial intelligence, automation, advanced analytics, and real-time monitoring.

According to him, technology should not simply automate compliance activities but empower professionals to identify emerging risks earlier, improve customer due diligence, strengthen transaction monitoring, and make better-informed regulatory decisions.

At the same time, he emphasises that compliance professionals must continue developing intuition, sound judgement, and emotional intelligence alongside technological capabilities, recognising that effective compliance depends equally on human decision-making and ethical responsibility.

Leadership Rooted in Integrity and Continuous Learning

Kartikay’s leadership philosophy centres on integrity, accountability, collaboration, and lifelong learning.

He believes successful leaders cultivate environments where teams are encouraged to communicate openly, think critically, embrace innovation, and continuously upgrade their knowledge in response to changing regulatory expectations.

Mentoring young professionals and promoting knowledge sharing remain important aspects of his professional approach, reflecting his belief that leadership is defined as much by developing others as by individual achievement.

Speaking on receiving the Business Mint recognition, Kartikay shared:

“Receiving this honour is both a privilege and a responsibility. I consider this recognition a reflection of the guidance of my mentors, the trust of my colleagues, and the opportunities provided by the organisations I have been associated with. Compliance is no longer viewed solely as a regulatory obligation; it has become a strategic pillar that builds trust, resilience, and sustainable growth. This recognition inspires me to continue contributing towards stronger governance, technological innovation, and the advancement of financial crime compliance.”

Looking Ahead

As financial crime becomes increasingly sophisticated, Kartikay believes the next generation of compliance professionals will require expertise that extends beyond regulatory knowledge into areas such as data analytics, digital identity verification, predictive risk intelligence, emerging technologies, strategic thinking, and business understanding.

He encourages aspiring AML and compliance professionals to remain curious, continuously build new capabilities, and approach compliance as an enabler of responsible business rather than merely a regulatory function.
