India Clinches Historic Third T20 World Cup Title

India cricket historic third T20 title

India won a record third T20 World Cup title, becoming the first team ever to win the tournament three times, the only team to secure back-to-back titles, The Men in Blue defended its crown with a dominating 96-run against New Zealand in a lop-sided final on March 8th.

Under Suryakumar Yadav’s captaincy, India also became the first to claim the title on home soil, as over 86,000 cricket enthusiasts celebrated at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. Bringing home Cricket World Cup carries additional emotional weightage as the same soil had broken several many hearts in the 2023 Cricket World Cup final, where India lost to Australia in Ahmedabad.

England and the West Indies have won two titles each, and India last night became the first team to bear the title thrice.

India posted a formidable total of 255 runs, dominating batting in the beginning first half. Sanju Samson played a remarkable tournament, finishing with 321 runs and earning the Player of the Tournament award. Earlier in the innings, Abhishek Sharma set the tone with a blazing half-century, while Ishan Kishan provided strong support as the duo built a rapid 50-run partnership in just 26 balls. India have brought up their 200 with five overs still left. After Abhishek’s half-century, Samson turned up the heat as he brought up a hat-trick of fifties. At the other end, Ishan Kishan gave him solid company as the pair put on a fifty partnership off just 26 balls. Jasprit Bumrah delivered a match-winning spell, taking 4 wickets for 15 runs in four overs, earning him the Player of the Final title.

With outstanding performances from both the batting and bowling units and strong leadership under Suryakumar Yadav, the Men in Blue have once again demonstrated why they are among the most formidable teams in world cricket.
