A Distinguished Academic and Research Leader in Civil Engineering
Prof. Kamalesh Kumar, Assistant Professor (Grade-I) in the Department of Civil Engineering at Birla Institute of Technology & Science Pilani, Rajasthan, has established himself as a respected academician and researcher with significant contributions to geotechnical engineering and civil engineering research.
He began his academic journey at Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, where he earned his B.Tech. degree with a commendable GPA of 7.7/10. Pursuing higher studies internationally, he completed his M.S. degree from Lehigh University, Pennsylvania, USA, securing a GPA of 3.6/4. He later obtained his Ph.D. from BITS Pilani, Rajasthan, in 2002, further strengthening his academic foundation and research expertise.
Over the years, Prof. Kumar has built an impressive research portfolio. He has published eleven papers in reputed international journals and two in national journals, reflecting his consistent engagement with high-quality research. His academic outreach extends to conferences as well—he has presented papers at four international conferences outside India, eight international conferences within India (including one held in virtual mode), and seven national conferences.
In addition to journal publications, he has authored three books, contributed to three book chapters, and has a publication featured in lecture notes, underscoring his commitment to knowledge dissemination and academic scholarship.
Prof. Kumar is also a member of Phi Beta Delta, the Honor Society for International Scholars, recognizing his global academic engagement and contributions.
His dedication to research excellence has earned him numerous prestigious recognitions. He received the Best Researcher Award at the International Scientist Awards on Engineering, Science and Medicine held in August 2021 in Trivandrum, organized by VDGOOD Professional Association. In September 2023, he was honored with the Best Researcher Award (Male) at the IAMRF Award 2023 by the Innovative & Advanced Multi Disciplinary Research Foundation and Prerna Education Research Society during an event at B. M. Institute of Engineering & Technology, Sonipat, Haryana.
Continuing his streak of accolades, he was conferred the Distinguished Researcher in Geotechnical Engineering Award at the 10th Venus International Research Awards (VIRA 2024) during the Annual Research Meet 2024 held in Chennai on 7th December 2024. Most recently, in March 2025, he was awarded the Best Researcher Award in the Field of Civil Engineering by the Scientific Laurels Committee in recognition of his exceptional achievements and outstanding contributions to research and development.
