On 20 November 2025, Nitish Kumar, leader of the Janata Dal (United) (JDU), was sworn in as Chief Minister of Bihar for a landmark 10th term, creating a new record in the state’s political landscape.
The grand ceremony, held at the iconic Gandhi Maidan in Patna, was graced by senior National Democratic Alliance (NDA) leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. This followed the NDA’s sweeping victory in the Bihar Assembly elections, where the alliance secured 202 out of 243 seats.
With this oath, Kumar’s cumulative tenure now spans nearly 19 years, placing him among India’s longest-serving chief ministers.
In his address, Nitish Kumar reaffirmed his commitment to good governance, development, and fulfilling the mandate given by the people of Bihar. He expressed gratitude for the overwhelming public support and assured that the government would work with renewed dedication to uplift the state.
The event also saw the induction of 26 ministers from the NDA coalition into the cabinet, including two deputy chief ministers from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
A standout moment from the ceremony was Prime Minister Modi’s gesture of waving his signature “gamcha” scarf to the crowd, an image that quickly gained wide attention across media platforms.
