The Indian men’s hockey team scripted a historic triumph on Sunday, defeating defending champions South Korea 4-1 in the final to lift the Asia Cup Hockey 2025 trophy and secure qualification for the 2026 Hockey World Cup in Belgium and the Netherlands.
India’s attacking brilliance was on full display as Sukhjeet Singh opened the scoring in the very first minute, setting the tone for the high-octane clash. Dilpreet Singh struck twice in the 28th and 45th minutes, while Amit Rohidas sealed the victory with a goal in the 50th minute. South Korea’s lone strike came from Dain Son in the 51st minute but was not enough to prevent India’s dominance.
The Harmanpreet Singh-led side remained unbeaten throughout the tournament, finishing with five wins and one draw. In the pool stage, India registered three straight victories, while in the Super 4s, they outclassed Malaysia 4-1 and China 7-0, before drawing 2-2 against South Korea.
This victory marks India’s fourth Asia Cup title, following previous triumphs in 2003, 2007, and 2017. South Korea, who have been the most successful team in the competition, remain ahead with five titles won in 1994, 1999, 2009, 2013, and 2022.
