India celebrates another historic Olympic moment as P.V. Sindhu wins a bronze medal in women’s singles badminton at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. With this achievement, she becomes the first Indian woman to win two Olympic medals, having previously won silver at Rio 2016. Her dedication, skill, and determination have once again made the nation proud.
Born in Hyderabad, India, Sindhu has been a dominant force in world badminton for years. She has won multiple medals at the World Championships, Asian Games, and Commonwealth Games. Under the guidance of coach Park Tae-sang, she trained relentlessly to prepare for Tokyo 2020, aiming to add another medal to her illustrious career.
Sindhu displayed remarkable form throughout the tournament. After cruising through the group stages and quarterfinals, she faced Tai Tzu-ying of Chinese Taipei in the semifinals but lost in straight sets. However, she made a strong comeback in the bronze medal match, defeating He Bingjiao of China (21-13, 21-15) with an aggressive and tactical game. Her powerful smashes and precise shots secured India’s second medal at the Tokyo Olympics.
