Using writing as a tool to bring the desired change
Introducing Kavya, a teenager from Ahmedabad, India, who published her book, Bare & Unfiltered, an anthology of sonnets and succeeded in realising her dream, one she held onto since she was five. Self-liberating poems in this book explore “ambitions, inhibitions, creations, and torn news of salvations” [from sonnet 37]. Structured as rigid fourteen line poems, these stimulating and soulful poetic lines through the perspective of a young mind will make you retreat inwards, and find solace with just being yourself. Kavya, in Hindi, means poetry, and hence it is natural that her essence, beliefs and opinions bear the stamp of a fearless, shameless, and real teenager, one manoeuvring life on her terms.
Shah’s love for the written word has been accentuating since she held her copy of Enid Blyton and was engulfed and placed under the spell of words. An international award winning writer, and magazine contributor, Kavya’s works have inspired and pushed readers to challenge stereotypes and convention. Having completed her primary education at the Riverside School, Kavya will be completing her undergraduate studies at the University of Chicago in the USA.
Already having several writing experiences and published articles under her belt, Kavya looks to use her craft to appeal to her audience and urge them to find the courage and words to speak their minds. With an intrinsic urge to prove herself, Kavya uses writing as a tool to catalyse change, break taboo’s, and grow every day, so as to learn to love herself in greater amounts.
