Sunil Kupperi also contributed his talent as Director of Photography for many of these films. He has directed and produced several films on issues of Fish workers, coastal ecology, HIV, Transgender, women empowerment, etc. One of the major works of Sunil was filming the get together and interaction between the survivors of hurricane Katrina in USA and tsunami in India. This film, ‘A tale of Two Coasts’ was shot in New Orleans, USA and in many parts of India. Another film photographed and directed by Sunil was,’ Rebuilding Lives’ which depicted the process of women empowerment in Rwanda, an east African country.

He has extensively documented several socio-political struggles through his camera in various documentaries including ‘Redefining Peace’, a film on eight women who lead different social movements and struggles in India. He also covered the horrifying scenario after the Asian Tsunami of 2004, its aftermath and the efforts of the survivors to rebuild their lives. As the director and cameraman in many documentaries including ‘Resilient Women’, a film that explores the imaginative, meaningful and long-term rehabilitation interventions in the post tsunami situation that change the lives of women and coastal communities, Sunil has made his unique imprint of socially committed film making.

The short film, titled ‘The Light’ is Sunil Kupperi’s first fiction as a Director. Sunil Kupperi brings together a team of professionals with varied skills, talents and experiences, including producers, directors, researchers, writers, musicians, editors, photographers, activists and ethnographers engaged in visual anthropology.
