Shantam is a finance and economics professional and is currently the Co-Founder of Tribe Student Accommodation
With his experience working abroad in the finance sector, he currently looks after business development, company finances and investments for Tribe. His keen sense of cutting edge practises for growing start-ups has enabled Tribe to achieve the correct financial growth required. He has been a keen enabler in terms of investment deals and financing for Tribe since its growth. The founding idea of Tribe Student Accommodation was majorly an idea borne by his experience of staying in hostels and his own vision of providing top class accommodation for students. Tribe Student Accommodation is his latest venture launched in 2018 and is already recognised internationally and has won multiple national awards including Fastest Growing Brand in Real Estate (2019) and Student Housing of the Year (2019).
The Entrepreneurship instinct essentially always ran in his blood, with his brother, mother and father having started successful enterprises from scratch. This was always going to be the path of life for him right from infancy and he was fortunate enough to always have undoubted supported from my peers.
He practically started to walk this path after getting into The University of Nottingham for my Undergraduate degree in Entrepreneurship, Finance and Management – B.Sc. He was heavily involved with creating household products, combining 3D printing and waste plastic for an Entrepreneurship competition. This ideally was the catalyst that solidified his ambition to start his own company.
Following on, He began working for Gulf Oil International London HQ as a Financial Analyst straight out of university, but had to give that up post Brexit, finding himself back in his hometown of Pune, India. Having an affiliation for the Finance Industry and disrupting industries, He was attracted towards the mysterious Cryptocurrency industry, consulting a new-age gaming start-up called LigerCoin with their user interface and coin wallet algorithms. He still did not feel satisfied as none of this was his creation.
Bringing you to Tribe – Student Accommodation. Being an entrepreneur, their kind always looks for the problems in society. The basic formula is always curating a practical solution for common challenges. The most obvious and prompt challenge of theirr times was locating decent accommodation as a student/ young working professional. The youth around him had all experienced all kinds of housing, right from common hostels to suburban residences to the luxury accommodation of the top metros, out of necessity as their lifestyle was frowned upon by conventional society. He found all the necessary resources right around him, with his father, Mr. Yogesh Mehra being a Real Estate veteran with over 30+ years of experience and his brother, Aman Mehra, a professional social media, marketing and tech wizard. They always looked at India as an immense opportunity within Student Housing.
In 2018 they launched Tribe – Premium Student Accommodation after raising initial capital investment, with 192 beds in Pune. Today, they are proud to have signed more than 4,000+ beds across the country in the luxury segment of Student Housing and have come forth as a Stallworth of the Real Estate realm, providing a changed landscape for revenue models for any asset. Thankfully, our vision and perseverance has been recognised through multiple awards in various field of work.
