Founder, MeraSeb

Achiever's Success Story

Helping the underprivileged

Mr. Om Sharma’s journey began in 9th grade, on a car ride back home from school. When he looked outside the window my car onto a nearby disadvantaged community, he was shocked to see a group of children who were visibly undernourished – the outline of their ribs was clearly visible through their skin. This gruesome image motivated him to start Project Aahaar, a non-profit organization which aims to raise awareness about nutrition and teach disadvantaged children how to stay healthy. Through Project Aahaar, he also worked with families on a personal level to create diet recommendations based on season, deficiencies, and income. He helped over 10,000 malnourished children across India and by securing partnerships with other NGOs his program will reach 300,000 children by the end of 2022. He was selected to present his work in Project Aahaar at the United Nations Headquarters in the New York to renowned delegates.

When he entered the 11th grade, I expanded Project Aahar to create MeraSeb. MeraSeb focusses on the distribution of fruits in hard-to-reach vulnerable communities like slums and orphanages while simultaneously raising awareness about nutrition. Through MeraSeb, he disturbed 1.18 million rupees worth of nutritious food to 3,100 disadvantaged children across 3 countries. He also repeatedly targeted the same communities to ensure nutrient influx is increased for a prolonged period of time.

His ambition for the future is to collaborate with other social entrepreneurs like himself to create an equal and fair world where everyone has the basic necessities to survive and opportunities to thrive. He also founded another NGO, Constructing Pathways, which upskills people with disabilities and helps them secure employment.

Over the course of the next 5 years, he aims to distribute INR 25 million worth of fruits. Furthermore, he is determined to use his education to create more sustainable projects which enhance the livelihood of the communities around him and all over the world.
