TruckBhejo, Charting a responsible growth journey

“Just remember, it all started with a mouse!” said Walt Disney. For TruckBhejo, it all started with the truck that used to get parked in the veranda of Mr. Nilesh Ghule, Co-founder and CEO, when his father would return from the long-haul trips. Being the son of a truck driver, Nilesh could spot the nuances of the trucking business early on. Throughout his growing-up days, he had seen the challenges and the hardships a truckdriver faces and what other supply-side constraints prevailed in the logistics space.

Despite the odds, Nilesh completed his MBA from IIM Bangalore, that’s where he met Supreet Perisetla, Co-Founder and CFO. Both joined Reliance Jio briefly wherein while working on the mobility products, they understood the demand-side challenges like 1) Multivendor interface resulting in hassles of multiple interactions and coordination to get one requirement fulfilled 2) Geographical dependencies where people were limited to certain geographies due to ownership asset heavy model or broker menaces 3) Limited technology intervention as the sector is highly frangmented and lacks availability of structured data.

This was the inflection point for Nilesh. TruckBhejo, operates with a value proposition to be a technology- led logistics company that focuses on providing reliable, efficient, and capacity agnostic trucking solutions to the companies of varied sizes. Elimination of brokers, direct business to truck owners-drivers supported by revenue visibility and respectful environment, and data-led smart & scalable solutions to customers have acted as its differentiators.

As Nilesh says, “Because once you start addressing end-to-end problems of the customers, they stay with you and we grow as their requirements go up. Just to give you a few data points – we work with an FMCG major for the last 5 years, we started with 3 lanes for that company and now we are catering to almost 45-50 lanes across Maharashtra. That’s the kind of scale we have ramped up and that’s the kind of stickiness we have experienced with our customers across industries.”

TruckBhejo aims for inclusive growth. Their business model is clearly scalable and so is their ability to facilitate scale in partners’ businesses too. The company currently serves some of the large names in the sectors like e-grocery, manufacturing, retail, telecom, e-commerce and FMCG across all three delivery miles. It is expanding its footprint in the small and medium enterprises segment focused on the last mile delivery.

For TruckBhejo, its truck owner-drivers have always been at the center stage. Its business model has provided consistency and visibility to their trucking partners and in turn financial flexibility. It has thus exalted the social quotient of the drivers along with enhancing their revenue potential. Its ability to uplift the social status of this community is a testimony to its focus on sustainability initiatives, thereby ensuring responsible growth.

TruckBhejo is a start-up, unlike start-up. The company combines the agility and fast growth of a start-up with a profitable business typical of traditional players. Since its inception, TruckBhejo has yielded positive margins for every single contract entered into. This financial viability is then extended to the truck-owner drivers, shareholders, employees, and so on. In terms of growth, TruckBhejo currently has expanded to 40 cities, 7 states and has almost 3000 active trucks running onto the platform. The company has shipped over 2 million tonnages and fulfilled over 1 million deliveries so far.

With a smart, scalable, and sustainability led business model, TruckBhejo aspires to create India’s largest, fastest, and reliable logistics network.
