Code4Good project was started in July 2020, during the first wave of the Coronavirus pandemic in India. While enough information was available at the national and state level at that time, there was no credible source of information at the local city level, especially for relatively smaller cities like Karnal. The first part of this initiative, https://karnalcovid.in, aims to fill that gap by disseminating factual information about the novel Coronavirus in Karnal and keeping citizens of Karnal safe.

But the major purpose of this website is to fullfil an unmet need. During this pandemic, among many other issues, access to reports for COVID-19 has been a major stumbling block, for both patients and healthcare authorities. Patients  need these reports to get admitted in hospital, to submit to their employers for leave or to use them for travel. But they find it very difficult to get their reports as they and their families are usually isolated at home and at most places there existed no online platform where one could download their reports in the comfort of their homes. To help rectify this, an online RTPCR report portal was developed for  karnalcovid.in. RTPCR report data is now being uploaded daily and patients are able to download their reports on their electronic devices.

After the success of the Karnal RTPCR portal, the project has been further expanded to other districts in Haryana during the second wave in April-May 2021. Currently, the Code4Good project has 10 websites serving 11 districts of Haryana. As of on July 18, 2021, the project has over 1.2 million views, over 700K hosted RTPCR reports with 150K downloaded reports, and is serving a population of about 16.5 million.

The project has been covered in multiple local and regional newspapers as well as digital media. I have also been honored by the Health Department as well as awarded by a State Cabinet Minister on India’s Republic Day ceremony. The project is summarized at https://code4good.in
