Dr. Vipul Lunawat has been into sports since his childhood and he went on to represent India in the sport of Roller Skating at the World Championships in 2003 at the young age of 18. He has won various medals at the National level in the sport of speed inline skating. Being a sports enthusiast and wanting to do something for the betterment of sports he started coaching young athletes.
He completed his PhD in Sports Management and has also done various professional courses from top management institutes like the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad. He has a level 2 Coaching certification in Short Track Speed Ice Skating, a winter Olympic sport, which is certified by the International Olympic Committee Solidarity program and the Australian Ice Racing.
Understanding the gap and the want for educating young professionals in the field of sports management he along with senior educationist Dr. P.C. Shejwalkar and his mother Ujwala Lunawat, a former national basketball athlete, founded the Institute of Sports Science & Technology (ISST) in 2008.
Since its inception, ISST has always strived to provide the best possible education to students who wish to pursue a career in sports management. Today, ISST provides 20 plus sports related professional courses in collaboration with the top-notch faculty, be it in the field of sports management, sports sciences, nutrition, psychology or medicine to name a few. ISST also has sports coaching multi-sport academies catering to kids as young as 3 years old with 400 plus kids enrolled.
Today ISST is one of the top sports education institutes not only in India but in Asia too, with many international students enrolling for the various programs provided. ISST has courses in Distance as well as classroom education in collaboration with top sports companies, globally. The ISST alumni consist of Olympians, international coaches, entrepreneurs, senior defense personnel, athletes & sports enthusiasts. With this effort ISST has produced 1000 plus sports professionals who are serving the sports industry at various levels in multi-national brands and top sports & government organizations.
He was a part of the Indian contingent of the Ice Skating team as a Team Manager and coach for various international events. His students have won various medals at South East Asian and internal events in the sport of ice skating.
He is also the winner of a national award from the Physical Education Foundation of India for Leadership & Excellence in Sports.
