Dr. Mukul Shastry is at present Vice – President and Head Legal for Welspun Enterprises Limited. He has vast experience of around 20 years in the field of corporate law and has spearheaded legal departments of big corporates such as Adani group and RPG group. He started as a litigating lawyer before Rajasthan High Court, then joined NLU Jodhpur as Asst. Professor teaching corporate laws, competition law and criminal law. Post NLU Jodhpur, Dr. Shastry joined Reserve Bank of India and after spending around 6 years in RBI, he joined the industry and therefore he is a lawyer cum academician cum central banker turned General Counsel.
In his motley career of two decades he has been part of complex mergers, acquisitions, litigations, international arbitrations, sanction compliance, claim management, infra/PPP financing and structuring, negotiations with government clients, tax related litigations et al.
He holds a Ph.D. in Trade and Competition Law and has authored many study materials, booklets on the subject. He also is an MBA from IIM Ahmedabad and spent time in UK as a student exchange in Warwick Business School. He has held position of Company Secretary in various companies along with being the lead legal. He has been academically bright which is evidenced by his being topper of Reserve Bank of India all India examination 2009 for Legal Officer and being the recipient of Arun Duggal All round Excellence Award established by IIM Ahmedabad Alumnus Mr. Arun Duggal (1972-74).
Dr. Shastry is Ph.D. guide top law schools such as GNLU, NLU Jodhpur and regularly takes lectures at prestigious law schools such as NALSAR, NLU Delhi, NLU Jodhpur, NIRMA Law School et. al. Dr. Shastry is also the Chairman of Industry Advisory Committee of Amity Law School, Amity University, Jaipur.
