Chief Executive Officer, Global Cancer Concern India
Dr. Harvinder Singh Bakshi started his career by joining Helpage International, UK to work as Programme Officer in secondment to HelpAge India at New Delhi. Kept getting elevated to higher positions. Worked in various departments and finally held the position of National Director of Advocacy Department which he established. Made resplendent contribution in the advocacy for the rights and entitlements of the elderly and inclusion of value education on age-care in the school education curriculum .Appeared as guest and expert in the programmes on elderly issues on various TV channels like Lok Sabha TV, National Doordarshan, NDTV, CNEB, Zee TV etc. For a brief period, also officiated as CEO of HelpAge India.
Since 2013, Dr.Bakshi has been heading Global Cancer Concern India as Chief Executive Officer with a high-octane enthusiasm. Under Dr. Bakshi’s leadership, GCCI which is working nationwide for the cause and care of disadvantaged cancer patients intensified deeply its crusade against cancer. The achievements are galore. Its Research & Development Journal was released by Hon’ble Union Minister Shri Harsh Vardhan. Kerala Government awarded GCCI for its relief work during floods in Kerala. Today, GCCI has an important place in the vanguard of cancer-care NGOs in the country.
Dr. Bakshi holds a PhD degree in Sociology. He also attended Post-Doctoral Course in Social Gerontology at United Nations Institute on Ageing, Malta (Europe). In addition to PhD, he has Post Graduate qualifications in Journalism and Industrial Relations. He attended conferences and workshops in countries like Canada, Malaysia, Thailand, Nepal etc.
Dr. Bakshi writes poems, articles and book reviews on social issues. His anthology of poems in Hindi on current social and national issues infused with humour and satire titled ‘Samsamyik Kavyay’ has been recently published and well appreciated. He is a regular practitioner of Yoga.
