Have you heard people saying food doesn’t taste the same now? Or that the number of patients for cancer, kidney diseases, eye problems, obesity are on a rise in metros and this is directly linked to the food intake? Or that people have forgotten seasons for vegetables and fruits, everything is available round the year!
And there is another extreme of this problem. Land is losing its productivity, farmers are not able to get good rates for the produce and mother earth is getting polluted. As it is rightly said, “Be the change you want to see”.
Scared of these problems and worried for her children’s health Richa Gadia started a venture called VGrowin Gurugram5 years back. It was an uphill task for a chartered accountant to understand best practices of farming, learning from farmers and teaching them in return but eventually it was rewarding. She developed a farm to fork model for nearby vicinity in Gurugram and was soon able to get a decent customer base. Her efforts were recognised by KrishiVigyan Kendra Shikohpur. Newspapers and TV channels covered her story.
As VGrow grew big and started getting demands from across the country it was the time for a second wave. VGrow now focuses on identifying the source of healthy packaged products like honey, oils, spices etc. for country wide consumers. They are incubated with National Institute of Agricultural Marketing (NIAM)and are developing block chain enabled QR codes for authentic products. The concept is to let consumer trace the movement of product right from the farmer to the packer to the supplier and make an informed judgement from the comforts of their home. In turn farmers and authentic suppliers get the advantage of third party verification of their products.
It is asmall initiative towards healthy living and it is a humble request to everybody to be mindful of what you eat.
