Achiever's Success Story

Mr. Shailesh Acharekar’s artistic journey

Armed with a BFA degree from Sir J. J. School of Applied Arts in the year 2000, Mr. Shailesh Acharekar started off as an excited, aspiration-driven professional at 23 in the year 2000, in the highly competitive world of advertising. He grew to be an Art Director early on in one of India’s leading ad agencies before taking a leap to pursue his dream career of innovative and specialist Art and Painting. In a short span of 5 years, his unique and multidimensional contemporary work garnered admirers from around the globe, including Bollywood celebrities, socialites, corporate bigwigs, and the country’s renowned politicians. Mr. Acharekar has always believed that art can transform any surface into a masterpiece, and that’s what he intended to explore.

He had no preferred surface to express his art style, but over time, he experimented and discovered the surfaces that he excelled in. As an emerging artist, he got his first solo exhibition in 2003 titled ‘Touchwood series’, which was art on/with wood. This was quickly followed by Touch-wood 2 in 2004 and his next was “Innovator”, wherein he celebrated the spirit of innovation. His solo Art Show titled “Me v/s myself” was an artistic manifestation of the internal struggle of the mind – the conscious versus the subconscious. Once again, the opus he crafted against a contemporary backdrop of man’s struggle with himself drew accolades from the world. Mukesh and Mahesh Bhatt. In their hit Hindi movies Raaz 2 and Tum Mile, he helped Emraan Hashmi to paint and his work was featured in them. He also has a huge passion for animation and video graphics and recently made a video for the ailing world on “Warriors of Covid-19”, which quickly became viral and was shared by everyone’s beloved influencer (on Twitter) Shri Amitabh Bachchan.

Following this (and being in a nationwide lockdown), he got a chance to create one more film on a similar line that was shared and appreciated by Shri Uddhav Thackeray, the then chief minister of Maharashtra, and was also shared on most local TV channels. These videos, which were symbols of the human spirit that have defined our collective fight against during the pandemic, went on to win worldwide recognition. Mr. Acharekar’s paintings are inspired by the myriad emotions at play in the human mind. Ultimately, the entire series is a silent tribute to the mysterious force that governs and makes us one with the universe. Even as you read this, my restless mind is thinking of new concepts. For my next exhibition, of course. Meanwhile, let Celestial Minds capture your imagination.
