Founding Basiz Fund Services: A Story of Determination and Growth

Dr. Sujata Seshadrinathan, is the Director of IT, Product, and Process at Basiz Fund Services, India’s only international fund administrator. Basiz is among the top service providers worldwide in financial reporting and within the top 30 in fund administration, with a history of managing over USD 300 billion AUA across various asset classes including Private Equity, Venture Capital, Hedge Funds, Segregated Managed Accounts, etc.

Her journey in technology and business commenced with technical training, then software development and business analysis, and further on to cutting-edge product development. Proof of this is are two patents she holds for technology designed to draft agreements, and another to communicate financial statements.

In 2004, she co-founded Basiz Fund Services, bootstrapping the company while balancing the demands of raising two young children. In 2011, she took on the role of leading the Basiz tech team. Under her leadership, Basiz pioneered automating complex workflows in private equity, earning recognition for its innovative solutions of the EPe system, which sits at the core of Basiz’s fund administration services. The robust system incorporates very interesting modules including a “Live Waterfall” and “Digital Investor Onboarding” platforms.

She holds a Doctorate in Business Administration from SP Jain School of Global Management, focusing on Blockchain adoption. A lover of mathematics, classical dance, and Indian classical music, she has successfully integrated the core values of these disciplines into her career. She has led companies invested in Fund Services, Fund Tech, and Legal Tech covering projects for process engineering based on Six Sigma architecture, SSAE certifications, etc. Her research interests include technology adoption, blockchains, and accounting information systems. Additionally, she serves as an Adjunct Professor for management courses, teaching Entrepreneurship and Technology.

She shares insights on empowering women-led ventures and the transformative potential of new-age technologies like artificial intelligence, Web 3, and blockchain through active participation in panel discussions and media notes.

She has been recognized for entrepreneurial excellence and industry leadership with several prestigious awards, including the Women’s Entrepreneur of the Year award for the SAARC region (Bronze), 2023 by WCIC, Sri Lanka, Trailblazer Woman Achiever & Woman Entrepreneur Award 2023 by FICCI FLO, Mumbai, India’s Top Women in Finance 2023 at the Indian Women in Finance Summit by eQualify, Top 10 Women Leaders in Accounting and Taxation – 2023 by Women Entrepreneur India and Top 30 Women Leader of India, by Startup Reporter, Startup MahaKumbh, in · Mar 2024.

The coveted Women of Excellence Award, 2024 by the Indian Achievers Forum she recently received with deep gratitude is a source of great motivation to her entire team at Basiz. She continues to shape the future of fund administration, among other things, proving that with determination and innovation, significant impact is achievable.

Beyond her professional achievements, she along with her husband Aditya Sesh, runs the Sujata Sesh Foundation. This foundation which took form in her service to society as a form of sadhana, aims to provide help and support in areas such as education, healthcare, water conservation, women empowerment, and sanitation.
